Cheap craft projects to try

Sometimes crafting can seem like an expensive pastime, especially if you look at some of the extravagant ideas posted all over social media. Thankfully, however, getting crafty doesn’t have to cost a bomb as the following ideas will show. Many won’t cost you more than £10 to complete, or even less if you already have some craft supplies ready to go.

Crafty Storage

Upgrade glass jars to become stylish accessories that can store anything from hair clips and makeup to your craft supplies.

Better Bathroom

Give your bath a new look – and add useful storage – with a rustic, wooden bath caddy. You can use anything from offcuts to driftwood.

Pots of Fun

Who remembers painting a terracotta pot at school to give to your mum or grandma? Why should kids have all the fun? Painting pots is not just for children and, with a few paints, can allow you to let your imagination run wild without breaking the bank.

Shelf It

Shelves are so easy to make and so useful when they’re finished. You could pick up old shelves from a car boot sale and give them a revamp, or start from scratch with anything from unused decking to plastic trays. Grab a few brackets and you’ve got the perfect place to store everything from your macrame kit to your nail polishes.

Reversible Placemats

On the topic of macrame, how about creating reversible placemats that can reflect your personality and your mood? There are macrame kits out there for all sorts of projects from specialist providers such as Wool Couture, or make use of supplies you already have.

If macrame isn’t your thing, you could make placemats from remnant fabrics or even old clothes. Reusing and recycling can help the planet as well as your project, as explained on the Lets Recycle website

Say Cheese

Grab an old cheese board and personalise it using a wood-burning design tool. These make great gifts – or just give you an excuse to eat more cheese!
